So we went and saw the sequel. Good action, great effects, not a bad story, but… it all felt like the same pirate stuff, different day. A lot of what happened felt like it happened in the first movie. You almost wish a pirate’s life could evolve somehow. Instead the story kind of follows the first movie story of good pirates run from bad good guys and bad pirates while cracking jokes, cracking jaws and drinking booze. Oh… and throw in some magical items, a few human/creatures and have eyes, hands, heads fall off and keep moving on their own.

The biggest thing I disliked about the movie was the ending… don’t worry I dislike people that give away the endings so I won’t go into detail. All I can say was I was not expecting the ending and it didn’t sit well with me. It was a long movie so sitting is something I had been doing longer than I wanted to already.

As far as summer blockbusters go 2006 has not been a great year in my opinion. I still look back to Terminator 2 as one of my favourite summer movies… of course that was 1991. Maybe I am just getting old.

I saw a few of the big movies this summer and a few of the smaller ones. I quite liked Superman but I didn’t have a sense of surprise at all through the movie. I entered the theatre knowing pretty much everything I did when I left. It was funny and the action was good but I like my stories to twist and evolve a bit here and there.

More recently I saw Clerks II. I am a fan of Kevin Smith and I followed the making of this on his various websites. I really enjoyed it although I realize it won’t be for everyone. If you enjoyed the previous Kevin Smith movies then you will probably dig this one.

I haven’t checked out Pirates of the Caribbean yet. Is it worth seeing? I loved the first one but for some reason I keep picking other movies over it.

I also saw Cars, The Devil Wears Prada, Nacho Libre, Over the Hedge, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, X-Men: The Last Stand, Garfield’s a Tale of Two Kitties, Wordplay and the Wild… and probably at least a few more I have forgotten.
Anything else good out there?
